TeDi Jansen Biography
I’m the self appointed Chief Shepherdess of Small Acre Farm. We raise Alpine goats, a mixed herd of fiber sheep and English Shepherds.
In 2014 I abruptly lost my corporate job of 23 years. As devastating as it was, through that experience (or perhaps as a direct result of it), I rediscovered joy and laughter in my life. Spending my days with the goats, sheep, and dogs on the farm helped me evaluate my life, my next steps and reconnect with the slow, simple life I'd become so disconnected from. While makings a batch of soap one day it occurred to me that I could share these simple pleasures with others and carve out a life I loved in the process.
In the first three years, my focus was the goats and the soap and lotion from their milk. During that time, fiber art (spinning, knitting, weaving, felting, dyeing) was a hobby. In 2017 I completed a 100-day project focused on the sheep and fiber art. I discovered that I had an even deeper passion for my sheep, the beauty of their fiber and the art that resulted. I find inspiration in the colors and textures of the fiber itself, bits of things I notice on the farm, on hikes in the area and in daily life.
“We have neglected the truth that a good farmer is a craftsman of the highest order, a kind of artist" - Wendell Berry
